I Get to! April 11, 2007

This past Sunday went really well, it was Easter and we had quite a few guests visiting the church! Our GCTV volunteers were out in full force and did an excellent job! After church was over and I was breaking down equipment, when one of our volunteers that I have recently had the opportunity to get to know better, asked me an interesting question, “How do you do it all (referring to serving) and keep a good attitude?” I thought it was a great question…but it took me a minute to respond. My first thought was - well, it’s my job! I work at the church so I need to serve with a good attitude because I need to “lead by example.” Decent answer… right?

Well, since then I have been thinking more about that conversation and reflecting on why it is we should serve with a positive attitude and all that goes along with that. I have come to realize that in order to remain positive, and avoid burning out it is important to keep the right perspective…So for what it is worth- here are my thoughts on it.

Serving Christ isn’t something I HAVE to do… It’s something that I GET to do!

The bottom line is I am truly humbled that God allows me to do anything in His name. I am not  special, I have made mistakes, I have sinned, and God knows that I have had days where my attitude has been horrible! Yet God, my great and merciful Savior, still gives me the opportunity to serve Him. I know that I am no way worthy of serving Christ in anyway, and reminding myself of that helps me to remain grateful that he still allows me to do so. So on the days where it is a little harder to be submissive, or I just don’t want to give up personal time to do something for HIM… I am going to remind myself that I don’t have to do it…. I GET TO! I am blessed because I get to serve the Lord.

Next time an opportunity presents itself for you to do something for HIM, and you think twice about doing it, or you are just having a hard time doing it with a joyful heart…hopefully this will help you!

Serve Him because you know Him, and serve others to make Him known! As Christ followers - serving is an act of worship and we are blessed to be allowed the opportunity to be in His presence, to worship Him in freedom, and to serve others in His mighty name!

Until next time…
